Before we know it, Father's Day is upon us.  It falls on the 3rd Sunday in June.  This year, it will be on Sunday, June 19.

You ask what  can you buy from a flower shop for Father's Day?  Well, here are a few suggestions:

Fruit baskets  for the health conscious  Dad - includes selection of at least 6 different delectable fruits

Mixed fruit baskets  - includes fruits, cookies, chocolates, nuts etc

Gourmet baskets - for the gourmand - includes imported chocolates, truffles, cheese, crackers, antipasto, preserves, cookies and other tempting items

Goody baskets - for the fun Dad - includes chocolates, candies, chips, cookies, jelly beans, nachos, etc.

European Planters - a variety of various green plants and flowering plants in either a basket or a ceramic dish

And of course,  fresh flowers are always appropriate.  Men love flowers equally as much as ladies.

Whatever you decide to do, we can help you show your appreciation for your father.

Remember we are open every Sunday for you.

This will be our first official blog on this website.
Let me introduce our store mascot – Spencer – he is a Westie – a west highland whte terrier  who thinks he owns the store and all the customers.  The owner has always had Westies, the first one was Graeme who drew in a lot of our customers. The second was Issey, a girl Westie who did her share to earn her keep.   Spencer who is only 2  years old has very big shoes to fill.

We have a diversity of customers in the area,  not only do we sell flowers, we also get to know the different cultures and we also exchange ideas. Today, we had a customer who introduced us to a restaurant downtown for authentic Iranian food.  We on the other hand showed him how to take care of the roses for his mother.

We also had a discussion with someone re corsages, the difference between a cymbidium orchid and dendrobium orchid.

Do keep in touch with us to find out what Spencer is doing and what new things are happening in our store.

The biggest celebration next to Valentine is almost here.  Yes, on Sunday May 8th, little boys and girls (and those not so little) will be celebrating women near and dear to their hearts because it’s Mother’s Day, and remember, this day is not just for mothers, it includes  mothers in law, grandmothers , great grandmas etc.  In short,  it’s a day to celebrate important female (or male) figures in your family.

If there is one piece of advice I can give to everybody is to order early!  Even if you are thinking of dropping by the store to pick up the flowers, I would still recommend calling ahead with the order.  As mentioned, for florists like me, Mother’s Day is the biggest day next to Valentine’s.  Knowing in advance what I need to do  helps me get organized;  but it  also benefits you and ultimately the special someone who will get to appreciate our arrangement.

Flowers are perishable and I do my best to estimate demand, however, as we get  closer to Mother’s Day,  we may run out of certain flowers.

What flowers are popular on Mother’s Day? Listed in order of popularity they are:

-    Roses
-    Gerberas
-    Hydrangeas
-    Spring flowers such as tulips, freesias, irises, etc.

Other things to consider when ordering:

-    Does she prefer certain colours?
-    Does she have a favourite flower?
-    What type of arrangements  are you looking for? (arrangement basket, arrangement vase, hand tied bouquet, cut flowers)
-    Is she allergic to fragrant flowers?

So, do me and yourself a favour and order early and enjoy the day!
